Volunteering Opportunities at One Community
Minibus Drivers
Would you like to do something pro-active with your spare time? Why not drive a minibus for One Community Transport? The One Community Transport scheme provides transport for voluntary and community groups, and members of One Community can hire minibuses to take residents and club members to meetings, shopping trips, days out and pub lunches.
FREE MiDAS minibus training is provided in-house and there is no level of commitment required. You can drive on a weekly or monthly basis, or only a couple of times a year. Any time that you can offer is very helpful. Expenses are paid and references and Criminal Record Bureau checks are undertaken.
Macmillan Solutions Volunteers
We currently need volunteers to provide practical help around the house to people affected by cancer - putting the vacuum cleaner round and the washing on and helping to keep things in the household ticking over while help is needed. This provides a tremendous boost to those struggling to cope with the effects of their illness. This opportunity is subject to Criminal Record Bureau checks and two references. Cancer awareness training is provided and expenses are paid.
Lifeline Installers
We are looking for volunteers to go into clients' homes to install and remove emergency lifeline equipment. An installation takes about an hour, as there is a form to fill in with the client's details, but a removal is quicker. We send the client's details to you, so you can arrange to go to the client's home at a mutually convenient time. We operate throughout the borough of Eastleigh, but volunteers usually work in one area that is convenient for them, although they are welcome to cover other areas if they are willing. (We are particularly looking for someone to cover the Bishopstoke, Fair Oak and Horton Heath area.)
The installation of the lifeline makes a huge difference to the lives of frail and vulnerable clients, enabling them to live independently with the confidence that they can summon help quickly when necessary, by simply pressing the button worn around the neck or on the wrist. This opportunity is subject to Criminal Record Bureau checks and two references. Expenses are paid.
Trustee for One Community
One Community is a major local charity with an annual turnover of c£1.5 million. We are looking for a new member for our board of trustees to assist with the strategic development of the organisation and to be a critical friend. Meetings of the board of trustees are held monthly on a Monday evening in central Eastleigh.
The work of One Community, as a charity, is to provide advice and support to the many voluntary and community organisations operating in the Borough. It also provides an impressive range of services to the residents of the Borough and beyond. These include community transport, Dial-A-Ride, support for adult and young carers, day centres for older people, respite care, a Macmillan Solutions project, an information and support project, community development and a Volunteer Centre.
